Who we are

Local insight. International safeguards. Lasting social value.

Bright Life emblem: an inclusive family, including a wheelchair user, in a green landscape

Built from community relationships, not a desk.

That history still defines us: evidence should be useful, participation should influence decisions, and safeguards should improve people’s lived experience.

អង្គការជីវិតស្រស់ថ្លា

We help governments, development partners, civil society and responsible businesses understand social risk, engage people meaningfully and deliver development that is fair, inclusive and accountable.

Founded in Cambodia on 29 September 2010, Bright Life began as a non-profit supporting rural wellbeing, disability inclusion, youth life skills, community health and livelihoods. Today, those grassroots foundations guide our work in GESI, social safeguards, social impact assessment, digital trust and community-led development.

Bright Life’s work began with disability awareness, counselling, youth life-skills clubs, community health outreach and small-grant livelihood projects. Through participatory research and joint monitoring with local leaders, the organization developed a practical understanding of how gender, disability, poverty and place shape development outcomes.

to Wealth

Turning informal waste picking into organized, dignified and diversified livelihoods.

Waste pickers make a vital contribution to recycling and resource recovery, yet many work informally, face hazardous conditions and depend on unstable markets. This pilot framework connects community organization, savings, diversified livelihoods and a practical circular-economy loop.

Location

Planned duration

Target group
~300 waste-picker households
Delivery model

What the pilot will help deliver

  • Organize & save Form Self-Help Groups, strengthen collective voice, build savings practices and create pathways to internal lending.
  • Diversify livelihoods Support home gardens and small-scale poultry to improve income stability, food security and nutrition.
  • Close the loop Convert organic waste into compost and natural fertiliser that can feed household gardens and local production.
  • Learn & scale Track social and livelihood outcomes, document lessons and build evidence for responsible future investment.

How we work

Participation is not a meeting. It is a process.

Our work connects community experience with defensible evidence, clear decisions and measurable follow-through.

  1. 1

    Listen

Map stakeholders, rights holders and barriers to participation before decisions are fixed.

  2. 2

    Assess

Combine qualitative insight and household-level evidence to understand risk and opportunity.

  3. 3

    Co-design

Develop practical measures with communities, government teams and project partners.

  4. 4

    Protect

Document commitments, manage grievances and monitor whether safeguards work in practice.

  5. 5

    Learn

Turn evidence into stronger systems, better decisions and more inclusive future investments.
